April 2025 Newsletter – Makanalani Kids

April is often a lighter time at the Kids House, but that wasn't the case for 2025! We stayed busy with all sorts of different groups coming to stay with us. Come join as we share about April 2025!

A Fun-Filled Family Camp

We had the opportunity to host Aeia SDA Church family camp! These families flew in from Oahu, getting to relax in community, lean into God’s Word, and offer the kids time of fun and fellowship! Such a blessing to host them here on Kauai while the weather was nice!

Homeschool Day Adventures

Homeschool days are always a highlight! This group came for a fun day to change the normal routine and have their classes at the Kids House! From music, to movies, nature, and games. These kids got a full day of fun and learning!

Mini Donkeys

The mini donkeys on the farm have been enjoying the beautiful days this month! Our herd continues to grow strong, as the little ones born in 2024 are closer and closer to blending in with the adult donkeys. Groups have continued to enjoy visiting these donks while taking in the beautiful views from the fields!

Night Hikes on the Farm

We had a fun time with the 3rd Grade class from Island School, taking them out on a night hike around the farm! Enjoying the cool weather and seeing the jungle from a different perspective. Passing through the animal fields, behind the scenes paths, and making fun memories on the adventure!

Ending Spring 2025 Around the Table

“The HLR spring session ended with a surprise final dinner and ceremony for our residents. We dressed up the table and went all out with the cuisine, sharing some of our favorite moments together before ending in worship.

The early church had this rhythm of gathering around the table. While worship, prayer, attending temple, and hearing the scriptures were all important – they made it an emphasis to gather daily at the table. Acts 2:46 says “day by day… breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with generous hearts.” (ESV) We continue this ancient tradition, breaking bread with one another each night around quality home-cooked meals.

After closing the session up in Kaua’i, we went on an amazing week-long trip to Southern California. The trip was filled with service, evangelism, feeding the homeless population, and immersing ourselves in the churches which support our program.

After the week in California, our spring residents were sent out to their homes, workplaces, schools, and churches to integrate and exercise the leadership skills they gained on Kaua’i.

We are currently looking ahead to our summer session! We are busy taking care of the usual stuff- bread, sheep, citrus- while also doing some home renovations to Alohalani for the incoming residents.”
