Summer has been so full of camps and so full of fun! A group from One Way Ministries on Kauai came to stay at Makanalani last week. Their ministry focuses on building a platform for ministry that’s uniquely designed for millennials. They partner with pastors, other ministries and churches to focus on glorifying God.
This weeks interns of the week are the boys of Alohalani! These adventurous guys came from California, Washington, and Arizona to come serve in the Makanalani internship program. They add so much value, strength, and handwork to the program. It is a blessing to serve with them!
1. How has your time serving at Makanalani impacted your life?
Kam: “Makanalani has shaped the way I view service. It has changed from doing acts of service to get recognition to doing acts of service to serve others and impact their lives. Being able to do behind the scenes work in order to benefit kids that get to come to camp is a very rewarding feeling.”
Elijah: “Makanalani has truly been a blessing to me. This is my first time participating in a service based ministry. God has grown me incredibly in physical and spiritual maturity. I am so thankful for the amazing opportunity to help serve Makanalani and for the impact it’s had on my life. It has taught me to “do nothing from selfish ambition or vein conceit, but in humility, count others more significant than yourselves” (Phillipians 2).
Blake: “Makanalani has shown me the true meaning of community and the impact of genuine work and service. I’ve learned things I could’ve only learned here, and the idea of Makanalani is unique in the best ways. Being part of that has opened up new channels of thought and experiences that no other internship could’ve provided for me.”
Zane: “Makanalani has been an amazing experience. It has taught me how to live in a tight community, and has given me the opportunity to build relationships and be present with God. Serving and daily time with God has taught me how to have joy and love through hard circumstances.”
Josh: “My time at Makanalani has impacted my life by giving me the chance to step out of my comfort zone. The unique community here is a once in a lifetime opportunity to get to know and grow with people I would have never known otherwise. Through my personal quiet time and God speaking through those around me, I have grown and been challenged in my faith in ways that wouldn’t have happened without Makanalani.”
Although a small camp, the Waioli family camp was one to remember. A couple families got to retreat to the Makanalani farm for a time of relaxation and fun. Together, they met our farm animals, rode the slip-n-slide, and spent quality time with one another.
Our Mission: Giving children the seeds for growth as they experience the beauty of God’s creation and love.
