One of our favorite questions is, ‘What does the Bible say?’ So many times during the day we find ourselves asking what Jesus would do or say to a certain situation or asking what the Bible has to say on the matter.
And what does the Bible say about Father’s Day? While it might not actually mention a specific day to celebrate fathers it does offer a place of honor for men who were leaders, or who led good examples, and who had certain skills. As can be seen in Genesis 17:5, God told Abram when changing his name to Abraham that “I have made you the father of a multitude of nations” showing that God places importance on fatherhood.
‘Genesis 17:5
No longer shall your name be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham, for I have made you the father of a multitude of nations.’
Jesus talks too about honoring his Father and His Father’s will.
‘John 17:1
When Jesus had spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify you.”
‘John 17:5
And now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had with you before the world existed.’
While we celebrate our earthly fathers this Father’s day let us all give prayer and thanks to our Heavenly Father who we owe all to.
‘1 Corinthians 8:6
Yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we exist. And there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we exist.’
