LAST WEEK AT A GLANCE…
Elders & Their Wives, Planning Meetings for Chicken in a Barrel, and the First Annual JoJo’s Mission Day
This past week, Makanalani opened its doors to the elders and their wives from Kapaa Missionary Church. They had a short but meaningful stay, and were able to use the quiet setting of the Kids House to meet together and fellowship with one another.
A new restaurant is in the works, which will further aid in the financial needs of Makanalani. Chicken in a Barrel is a delicious BBQ joint here on the island, and we are starting a franchise in Kapaa which is already in the works. Over the past few days, several planning meetings took place in hopes that our chicken restaurant will be open before the busy tourist season of 2018. Kauai is expecting a 40% increase in tourism next summer, and we hope and pray to be up and running when it starts.
Sunday morning we closed our two JoJo’s locations for an important and fun Mission Day at Makanalani. Many of our staff had never seen the camp, and didn’t realize the importance of the work they do in our shops. We took them on an animal tour and picked bags and bags of fruit to send home with them. After a delicious lunch, Eric and Lyn shared with the JoJo’s staff how Makanalani started, and why it exists. Then we ended the day with some important tips from the managers and ice cream.
