Love in the Bible

On this Valentine’s Day, we hope that you are experiencing love in your life, & most especially the greatest love of all, that of our Savior, Jesus.

But what does the Bible have to say about love between humans? Well, just as in all over aspects of life, there is much wisdom to be found there, from Genesis onward.

In Genesis, we find the love of Issac for Rebekah

“And Isaac brought Rebekah into his mother Sarah’s tent, and she became his wife. He loved her deeply, and she was a special comfort to him after the death of his mother.”

Genesis 24:67

And Jacob’s love for Rachel which was worth his seven years’ labor to him

“So Jacob worked seven years for Rachel. But his love for her was so strong that it seemed to him but a few days.”

Genesis 29:20

This beautiful bit of poetry from the Song of Solomon

“How lovely are your cheeks; your earrings set them afire! How lovely is your neck, enhanced by a string of jewels.”

Song of Solomon 1:10

And, of course, the greatest commandment of all about human love

‘And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”’

Matthew 22:37-40
