2023 was such an incredible year for Makanalani. Let's take a moment to look back and review the year!
Adventures at the Kids House
We have had a fantastic year with camps at the Kids House! Throughout our year we’ve hosted over 60 different groups and hundreds of people who have come to stay. Countless smiles, memories, and adventures have been happening. It’s amazing seeing God work though these camps, changing lives every day!
Delicious Days at JoJo's and Chicken in a Barrel
JoJo’s Shave Ice and Chicken in a Barrel have had busy years! With updates to our menus and expansions to our venues, there has never been a better time to visit! Come get a delicious meal in great company at Chicken in a Barrel Waimea or Coconut Marketplace, or get a sweet treat that will brighten any day from JoJo’s Waimea, Coconut Marketplace, or Hanalei!
2023 Makanalani Interns
We have had three sessions of interns this year, each one with growth in service and community! We are extremely grateful for the hearts of these young adults coming in for a season to dedicate their time and efforts into supporting Makanalani.
We’re excited for a whole new year of interns in 2024 as we continue to invest into these young adults!

Being a Makanalani Intern is a fantastic opportunity to grow, serve, and live in community in a Christ centered environment. It’s a fantastic way to spend a season in personal growth and supporting us! We’re always looking for new interns!
Life on the Farm
The farm has been flourishing! We’ve been having a great year with our produce and animals. The farm has continued to expand through new baby animals, expanded produce, and even 40 new avocado trees our interns helped plant and cultivate! It’s never a dull day around here!
Farmers Market Fun
This year we have continued selling our product at the Farmers Markets in Kilauea and Hanalei. We’ve been having big successes in selling our jams, butters, and whipped honeys. We’ve added a new item to our menu in our freshly baked sourdough bread! It’s been a huge success, so keep an eye out for where we may pop up next!
Construction Updates
Construction never stops… making progress! It’s been a long process, but our new staffing house is getting closer and closer by the day! It’s been amazing seeing this concept go from an empty plot all the way to the nearly completed building it is now!
