Makanalani Kids May 2022 Newsletter

Long time no see! We missed you in April, but we're back and happy to share some fun updates and introduce you to some new faces!

April and May Groups

From a day on the farm with a homeschool group, to a women’s tea party, to a 6th grade graduation party, we’ve definitely been keeping things fresh and exciting around here! The homeschool group that visited us were having a colonial themed field trip to teach the kiddos about all the ways families used to farm, milk their cows, and do some homesteading crafts. They got to visit our dairy cows and learn about the milking process and returned to the field to play some games and even make some homemade ice cream!

We were also able to be a part of hosting the Women of Worth Tea Party. Each year, tons of women get together at Makanalani for a beautiful day of prayer, worship, and fellowship. They go the full length to dress up, put on their fancy tea hats, and enjoy some yummy treats and a fresh pot of tea!

To close out our May groups, we had the Kilauea Elementary School 6th graders come up for the day to celebrate their graduation! It was so fun to have them explore the farm, play tons of games, eat some yummy pizza, and of course, go down the slip n slide!

Welcome Summer Interns!

Summer 2022 Interns

In May we welcomed our first group of Summer interns! This is the most geographically diverse group we have ever had! We have interns from Washington, Alabama, Illinois, Georgia, Virginia, Indiana, Oregon, Arizona, Colorado, Missouri and more! We still have a few more interns on their way to join our group later in June, we are so excited for all the ways they will get involved with Makanalani this session.

Our Fall Session applications are open! If you know of any young adults who want to come serve in Kauai for 3 months, send them our way!

A Hui Hou!

Lauren and Spencer

If you’re a past intern or you’ve gotten to visit our internship in the last couple years, you definitely know these two! Lauren and Spencer both started out as interns and have been faithfully serving as our Internship Coordinators for the last 3 years (Lauren) and 1 year (Spencer). Fun fact, Lauren was our very first official Intern Coordinator! She has absolutely rocked her job and has been such a light and joy to us all. Sadly for us, they are both moving onto bigger and better things back on the mainland. We are so happy for them both but will miss them like crazy! We are so incredibly grateful for the hard work and dedication they have put into this program and the amazing impact they have made at Makanalani. A Hui Hou Lauren and Spencer!

If you’ve been following along, you know we’ve been selling our farm to table brand, Seasoned with Aloha, at the Anaina Hou Farmers Market for the last several months.
