Have you heard about ‘Read Across Kauai Day’? It’s based on the original ‘Read Across America’ event but for us here on Kauai it was made a little more ‘Kauai Style’ with the focus moving to local authors and using books that reflect life here on Kauai.
Read Across Kauai Day gives keiki the chance to meet local authors who speak at length about their books and writing and answer as many questions as you have, this bridges the gap between what you read and who wrote it and can help promote confidence in the aspiring authors of tomorrow. The day also hopes to promote reading in all children and as a family as informational sheets about the importance of parents reading outloud to their younger keiki are available to take home.
This year the books that will be being read are: Monika Mira’s Who Lives in the Ocean? A book about ocean animals of Hawaii, and Carol Peacock-Williams’ Beach Fun. This year’s event will be held at Lihue Public Library on Thursday, September 6th from 9:00 am to 12Noon. To find out more contact Storybook Theatre on 335-0712, or click here for their website.
