I’m sure many if not all of you have heard of the sad passing of Billy Graham who died on Wednesday, February 21st, 2018. Although his passing is a great blow to us all let us take comfort in that he is now sat at the feet of our Heavenly Lord.
In his 99 years on this earth Billy Graham achieved so much. Born on November 7th, 1918, in Charlotte, North Carolina he was one of four children and although his family were Calvinists a traveling Evangelist caught the young Mr Graham’s attention and the rest as they say is history. He attended the Florida Bible Institute where he was ordained in 1939 at the tender age of 21 and then moved to Illinois to attend Wheaton College for more spiritual training.
He pastored in many places before leaving to concentrate on preaching in 1952 and his heartfelt sermons captured audiences worldwide immediately. With his charismatic personality and engaging style he soon became a Christian Superstar preaching to many. Radio shows and television followed and God’s message reached millions. There were books, records and tapes, shows around the world where he preached and a magazine Christianity Today which is still going.
He was awarded with many honors, none of which came close to serving our Lord and Father in Heaven. In 1992 he become ill and his son William took over. He fully retired in 2005 but the call again came to him and on his 95th birthday he spoke of his hope for America to over 900 people in a final sermon called ‘My Hope America’. Sadly his age and health took its toil on him and he passed into the arms of Our Father on February 21st, 2018.
His legacy lives on in the works he did and that his son carries on today, and in the love of our Lord God that millions now know thanks to his messages and sermons reaching so many. God Bless you Billy Graham, you deserve your rest.
