As our regular readers know, one of the things we enjoy doing on this blog is researching what the Bible says about various subjects. Lately we’ve been thinking about exercise… perhaps because during Spring & Summer we get a little too much of it sometimes here on the farm. 😉
So what can we find in passages about exercise & taking are of the wonderful gift from God that are our physical bodies?
We do know, of course, that it is our spiritual well being that is of utmost importance, but we also find that it is easier to be of good & virtuous spirit when our bodies are operating well.
This is expressed well in 1 Timothy 4: 7-8:
7 Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales; rather, train yourself to be godly. 8 For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.
A gentle reminder that godliness is above all, but our bodies do matter too.
And more explicitly in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20:
19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.
So remember, honor God in all that you do, including diet & exercise, & your reward shall be manyfold.
