Did you know that January 10 is celebrated as the Baptism of Jesus?
Many celebrate it as part of the Epiphany, but we recently learned that January 10, tomorrow, is also a traditional day. It is an opportunity to contemplate Jesus, the Son of God, humbling himself to John the Baptist. It is part of the wonder of Christ taking the sins of others & giving his followers a model to replicate. It was, of course, not necessary for him, but was done for us all.
This day is therefore also seen as the first day of Christ’s public ministrations. The first time that he went out into the world as the Revealed Savior.
The day is often celebrated with water, which is so very much in keeping with our island. For instance, Calvary Chapel & Crossroads Christian Fellowship both celebrate beach baptisms.
So, as you attend church tomorrow, think of Our Lord there in the River Jordan committing himself to our salvation in the most humble of ways.
