Making Art

Art & children just seem to go together. Especially now that the holidays are upon us, since there is nothing more special than a hand made gift from a loved one.

As you know if you read our blog, one of our favorite Hawaiian artists is the fantastically talented Patrick Ching. We ran across this in his newsletter & had to share — we think it sums up what art is all about.

The world may swirl around you and at times it may seem like it’s moving too fast to stay on. One thing you have control of is the art you create. Whatever it is you are doing put all the goodness you can into it. You can start by doing positive meditation or putting a prayer for your art piece so that the person who gets it and all who view it will feel the love that went into it and be blessed by what you’ve done.

— Patrick Ching

Patrick offers classes & video instruction for those with an artistic inclination. He’s a kind & effective teacher.

If you are looking for gifts & are not personally artistic, or if you just find yourself pressed for time this Christmas season, Patrick’s original paintings, prints, videos & books all make great gifts.

And Patrick is not the only talented one in the family. His mother, Norma Ching, writes wonderful inspirational books. We especially enjoyed Love Letters from the Master. We think the introduction will intrigue you as well:

The Lord knew that I needed encouragement from time to time, so he wrote me letters with a directive to publish them so that you too would be encouraged…

for God does not have favorites.

In the letters, He introduces Himself and gives us His Word of promises. And “God is not man, that He should lie” (Numbers 23:19). All you have to do is… believe and receive.

If you are near Makanalani, he has a booth at Princeville Center right next to Foodland & if you’re lucky, he’ll be there to talk story in person. (We have even seen him sweeping the pavement outside his store… he is just that humble & lovely a man.)
