We were blessed to be able to participate in a very special event that was held at Makanalani a few weeks ago. Rabbi Michoel Goldman (a fellow South African) held this event at Makanalani. The Conservative Jewish community of Kauai had just received a brand new Torah from Israel that had taken a year to write using a quill and ink. This was a huge deal to them and they needed a place where they could complete the last few lines of the Torah. A Rabbi who is trained in hand writing on parchment completed the Torah at Makanalani with the members of their community holding the quill and dipping it into the ink which they then pass on to the Rabbi.
There were about 150 people in attendance and they brought a Kosher caterer onto the island from Oahu (he is the only caterer on the islands so is in great demand!!) to do all the food. They invited the “other” (non conservative) Jewish community from Kauai and also other people who would be interested in the significance of the event. It was a joyous occasion and Eric and I were very blessed to be a part of this.
Here are some of the photos that they have sent us which will give you some idea.
It is amazing to see who God brings to Makanalani!
