Last Year at a Glance… Brief Overview, Farm Operations, Business Recap, Internship Program, & Final Year End Requests

From our newsletter. Don’t miss out, sign up for the Makanalani Newsletter here (scroll to the bottom of the page to enter your email).

In this final newsletter of the year, we want to thank you all for your support and give a brief overview of what the Makanalani team achieved this past year!

Most important, we had around 800 kids visit Makanalani and experience its beauty and love.

Our 2018 farm operations on Makanalani yielded over 8 tons of citrus, a dairy herd approaching 30 cows, a streamlined sheep flock, increased shipments of herbal teas, and some hundreds of bottles of honey from our hives.

We started a new BBQ restaurant on the West side in February, and by November we were able to serve over 300 people in a single evening.

In September our third JoJo’s Shave Ice shop was completed and opened on the East side of the island.

Also in September, we completed a major build out and start up of our second BBQ restaurant, with very good reception from locals and visitors alike.

Of course, just like our first two JoJo’s shops and the farm operations, 100% of the profits from the new operations go to support the free camps for the less privileged kids at Makanalani.

A huge part of our success in 2018 was our new intern program at Alohalani. These servant-minded interns, under the guidance of our fantastic Alohalani house-parents, impacted every part of Makanalani and it’s support infrastructure, while experiencing Hawaiian island life and true community.

REQUESTS:
We have two requests to make of our readers at the end of this year:
First, please pray for the success of the three new Makanalani businesses – we can plant and water, but we need God’s grace for them to grow and be healthy.

Second, please take a few minutes and sign up two or more friends to receive our newsletter (friends who do not currently get it sent directly to them). To sign up simply go to the bottom of the first page of Makanalani.com and have their email address handy; it’s quick and easy.

This will be the last newsletter for this year. Thanks again for your prayers and for all of your support. Our next newsletter, due mid-January 2019, will give you all of our goals and plans for the new year.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!
