Since sheep are very much a part of our lives at Makanalani, this painting by Ambrose Dudley especially speaks to us.
Robert Ambrose Dudley was an English painter & illustrator. He worked on illustrations for many children’s books, including The Pied Piper of Hamelin as well as producing lovely images of Bible stories.
He did landscapes & portraits as well, & was exhibited at the Royal Academy.
Not much is known of Dudley’s life other than his work, but that work speaks for itself. The tenderness of Jesus towards his flock & the appreciation of the sheep for his care comes through very clearly.
